Broadband acoustic collimation and focusing using reduced aberration acoustic Luneburg lens
نویسندگان
چکیده
An acoustic Luneburg lens is a symmetric gradient-index with refractive index decreasing radially from the center to outer surface. It can be used manipulate wave propagation allowing collimation and focusing capabilities. Previously studied lenses based on conventional concept work only at audible frequencies ranging up 15 kHz or single ultrasonic frequency of 40 kHz. In this paper, by tailoring focal length different radius, reduced-aberration (RAALL) proposed for broadband omnidirectional focusing. Based ray trajectories obtained ray-tracing technique, RAALL achieve better in comparison modified optical design. Following analysis, two models [two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) devices] are designed fabricated using additive manufacturing technology. Collimation performance waves analytically, numerically, experimentally investigated both 2D 3D lenses, their characteristics demonstrated.

Design and measurements of a broadband two-dimensional acoustic lens
We describe the design, fabrication, and measurement of a 2D broadband gradient index acoustic lens in air. The index of refraction is tuned by controlling the dimensions of acoustic metamaterial unit cell inclusions designed through numerical simulations. The lens was fabricated in plastic through rapid prototyping stereolithography, and measurements of the sound field show good agreement with...
متن کاملBroadband Acoustic
The experimental approach is based upon exploiting both long-range observations of clutter and shortrange, or direct-path observations (seabed scattering and reflection) of the features that give rise to the clutter. Direct path observations offer two significant advantages: a) the uncertainties associated with propagation (through a generally sparsely sampled ocean) are minimized, and b) the m...
متن کاملLuneburg lens waveguide networks
We investigate certain configurations of Luneburg lenses that form light propagating and guiding networks. We study single Luneburg lens dynamics and apply the single lens ray tracing solution to various arrangements of multiple lenses. The wave propagating features of the Luneburg lens networks are also verified through direct numerical solutions of Maxwell’s equations. We find that Luneburg l...
متن کاملBroadband Acoustic Hyperbolic Metamaterial.
In this Letter, we report on the design and experimental characterization of a broadband acoustic hyperbolic metamaterial. The proposed metamaterial consists of multiple arrays of clamped thin plates facing the y direction and is shown to yield opposite signs of effective density in the x and y directions below a certain cutoff frequency, therefore, yielding a hyperbolic dispersion. Partial foc...
